Redact a PDF without uploading

To redact a PDF without uploading anything, use a tool that runs entirely in your browser. The marked regions are removed from the page content on your device — the text you are hiding is never transmitted to be 'processed'. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark.

Updated July 2026 — verified against the live tool.

UnboundPDF is a free suite of 53 PDF and image tools that run entirely in your browser — merge, split, compress, edit text, OCR in 126 languages, redact, sign, convert and archive to PDF/A. Your document is read and written by the page on your own device; there is no document-upload endpoint in the core tools, no account, no watermark and no daily cap. Every result can be checked — with the Network tab, or with the Document Passport the Workspace writes for a chain of steps.

Redact a PDF privately: why it matters

Redaction exists because the document contains something secret. Uploading it to a server so that server can remove the secret is a contradiction. UnboundPDF strips the marked content in your browser; the unredacted original never crosses the network.

Steps

  1. Open the Redact a PDF tool.
  2. Drop your PDF in — it is read on your device, not sent anywhere.
  3. Run the operation. Everything happens locally.
  4. Download the result from your own machine.

How to prove it yourself

Do not take our word for it. Keep the Network tab open from upload to download. Neither the original nor the redacted copy appears in any request. The Privacy Lab shows the full verification method.
