PDF tools should not require handing over your documents.
UnboundPDF is a free, privacy-first browser PDF toolkit at unboundpdf.com. Documents are processed locally in the browser and are not uploaded.
Updated 18 August 2026
It is the name of this independent PDF software platform—not a term for unbinding book pages, unlocking copyrighted documents, or removing DRM.
Why UnboundPDF exists
Most online PDF services begin free, then introduce file limits, watermarks, account requirements or premium locks around the useful features.
UnboundPDF was built around a simpler idea:
Useful PDF tools should remain accessible, and private documents should remain with the person using them.
The product includes tools for editing, merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing, redacting, protecting and extracting content from PDFs.
Principles
Local by default
Document processing happens inside your browser whenever the tool supports it.
Useful without a paywall
Core and advanced tools are available without subscriptions, usage credits or artificial hourly limits.
Clear about limitations
Browser processing runs on your device, so what a run needs depends on the operation, the document’s structure, the browser and the resources your device has free. UnboundPDF checks those before processing and tells you what it found, rather than hiding it or letting the tab fail without explanation. Where we publish a size, it is a document we watched an operation finish in a dated, repeatable benchmark — never a boundary, because in 124 measured runs across three browser engines nothing stopped, so no boundary was found. Some complex PDFs may not preserve every element perfectly. We would rather say so than oversell — the changelog carries the dated record of what was measured and what was not, and how UnboundPDF handles large PDFs locally publishes the benchmark tables themselves, including the five requirements they did not pass.
No unnecessary accounts
You should not need to create a profile just to merge, edit or compress a document.
How it works
- Choose a PDF tool
- Select files from your device
- The browser performs the operation
- Download the result directly
Your document content is not stored in an UnboundPDF file database.
Who built UnboundPDF?
UnboundPDF is created and maintained by independent developer Vamsi Venkatesh. The tools are designed without a document-processing backend, so UnboundPDF cannot receive or store the files you process. Questions? Contact.
