Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. UnboundPDF processes PDFs locally in the browser — documents are not uploaded to a server. We have no backend that receives, stores, or scans your files.
Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can combine?
There is no fixed cap in the tool, and we will not quote one. What we can give you is what was measured on 2026-08-15 on one desktop machine (Apple M4, 16 GB, macOS): merging was observed completing a 500-page 99.6 MB document and a 300-page 119 MB scan into valid 501- and 301-page PDFs on Chrome's, Firefox's and Safari's engines alike, each output reopened and checked in an independent PDF reader. Those are the largest documents we watched it finish, not the point where it stops - no run in that matrix stopped. What a run needs still depends on the operation, the document's structure, the browser and the resources your device has free; UnboundPDF checks those before processing and tells you what it found. The tool just needs at least two valid PDFs to merge.
Will the pages stay in the order I set?
Yes. Files are merged top to bottom in the order shown on screen, and every page from each file is kept.
Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. An encrypted file is flagged so you can unlock it first with the Unlock PDF tool, then add the unlocked copy to the merge.
Does merging keep links and form fields?
Links and form fields on each page are carried into the combined document. Document-level bookmarks (the outline) are usually not preserved when files are joined.
Will merging reduce the quality of my PDFs?
No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their original quality — nothing is re-compressed.
Can I merge PDFs of different page sizes?
Yes. Each file keeps its own page size in the merged document; they do not have to match.
