How to use Booklet Maker
- Drop the PDF in. It is read on your device, and the page tells you how many blank pages are being added at the end to reach a multiple of four.
- Pick the sheet size — A4 or Letter, both landscape, both carrying two pages side by side.
- Pick one folded stack, or several thinner saddle-stitch signatures for a long document. The signatures are cut in order and the last one holds whatever remains.
- Download, then print double-sided with the printer set to flip on the short edge, fold the stack in half without reordering it, and staple along the fold.

Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. UnboundPDF processes PDFs locally in the browser — documents are not uploaded to a server. We have no backend that receives, stores, or scans your files.
Why does the page order look scrambled?
Because it is imposition, not reading order. On a folded booklet the outer sheet carries the last page and the first page side by side, the next carries pages 2 and the second-to-last, and so on. For a 12-page booklet the sheets come out as 12·1, 2·11, 10·3, 4·9, 8·5, 6·7 — which reads 1, 2, 3 … 12 once it is folded.
What exactly do I set on the printer?
Double-sided (duplex), flipping on the SHORT edge, and scaling off or set to actual size. Short-edge is the part people miss: with a long-edge flip the backs of the sheets print upside down. That is a printer setting and no PDF can carry it for you.
Why were blank pages added?
A folded booklet always uses paper in fours — one sheet, two sides, two pages a side. A document whose page count is not a multiple of four cannot fill the last sheet, so the padding goes at the end of the document, where a reader expects the empty pages to be. The result screen states how many were added.
What are signatures for?
A signature is one folded stack. A thick document folded as a single stack bulges at the fold and creeps at the fore-edge; several thinner signatures fold and staple more neatly, and are then gathered in order. Choose a signature size and the document is cut into stacks of that many pages, in order, with the last stack holding what remains.
My pages are different sizes — what happens?
Each page is scaled to fill its half of the sheet, keeping its proportions, and centred there. A page smaller than the half is enlarged and a larger one is reduced, so a document that mixes A4 and Letter comes out on matching sheets. Nothing is cropped.
Does the text stay selectable?
Yes. Each page is placed as embedded page content, so its text and vector artwork are carried over as they are — nothing is rendered to pixels. Annotations, links and form fields are not carried onto the imposed sheets, because a sheet is a new page rather than the original one.
