No. UnboundPDF processes PDFs locally in the browser — documents are not uploaded to a server. We have no backend that receives, stores, or scans your files.

You can restyle text you add. For existing text, the editor checks whether the PDF's embedded font can be reused; if it cannot, the save receipt names the substitute before download.

Supported edits preserve the measured size, colour and spacing, and paragraphs reflow in place. Exact appearance can change when an embedded font cannot be safely reused; the save receipt reports that substitution.

There is no fixed cap in the tool. Measured on 2026-08-15 on one desktop machine (Apple M4, 16 GB, macOS), the editor opened a 300-page 119 MB scan, a 500-page 99.6 MB document and a 1,000-page file on Chrome's, Firefox's and Safari's engines, painting the first page in roughly half a second in every one of those runs. It works through long documents in stages: thumbnails stop at 200, pages are rendered as you reach them, and a low-memory mode evicts cached pages and clamps canvas area when the device looks constrained. Those are documents we watched it open, not a boundary - none of those runs stopped. Editing still runs on your device, so what a run needs depends on the operation, the document's structure, the browser and the resources your device has free, and a phone takes longer than a computer.

The content below it moves down the page with it, live, like a document editor — and the saved file matches what you saw. If moving down would push something past the bottom of the page you get a warning, and a one-click “Shrink text to fit” keeps the page geometry unchanged instead. In multi-column layouts the shift affects the full width of the page, which you see immediately and can undo.

When the edit succeeds in the document's own structure, the original show operators are removed from the PDF — the old words are gone, and the new text stays selectable and searchable. If a page is too complex for structure editing, the editor asks before using a fallback: either keep full quality with the old text covered (recoverable by tools) or flatten that page to an image so the covered text is permanently removed.
