Remove blank pages from a scan — measured ink, and a review before anything goes
Updated 28 August 2026
Remove Blank Pages measures each page's ink inside a margin-inset region against that page's own paper level and flags pages at or below the threshold — pre-ticking only the clearly blank ones. Nothing is removed until you confirm the ticks; every flagged page shows its measured percentage and a thumbnail, and light content is exactly why the review exists.
Find and remove scanner blank-backs in your browser: ink measured per page, percentages shown, review mandatory — nothing removed until you confirm.
UnboundPDF is a free suite of 53 PDF and image tools that run entirely in your browser — merge, split, compress, edit text, OCR in 126 languages, redact, sign, convert and archive to PDF/A. Your document is read and written by the page on your own device; there is no document-upload endpoint in the core tools, no account, no watermark and no daily cap. Every result can be checked — with the Network tab, or with the Document Passport the Workspace writes for a chain of steps.
- Open Remove Blank Pages and add the scan; every page is measured on your device.
- Review the flagged list — each with its ink percentage and thumbnail; clearly blank pages come pre-ticked, borderline ones deliberately not.
- Confirm the ticks and download; the result states how many pages were removed and where.
Open Remove Blank Pages, read the flagged list — percentages and thumbnails — confirm, download. The scanner's blank backs go; nothing goes without your tick.
Where the blanks come from
Duplex scanners image both sides of every sheet; single-sided originals produce a blank back per page. A 40-page contract becomes an 80-page file where half the pages are paper-coloured nothing — heavier, slower to page through, and clumsy in review.
Measured, then reviewed — in that order
Each page's ink is measured inside a margin-inset region (scanner edge shadows don't count) against that page's own paper tone. At or below the threshold: flagged with the number. Clearly below: pre-ticked. In between: listed, unticked, with the reason — a pencil note or a stamp measures low, and the review is where you catch it. The threshold slider re-flags live.
In the scan-cleanup chain
This pass sits naturally with Deskew and OCR in the paperwork cleanup routine — geometry, blanks, recognition, then compression for filing.
Frequently asked questions
How does it decide a page is blank?
Measured ink coverage inside a margin-inset region, against that page's own paper level — the percentage is printed next to every flagged page. Blank is a measurement here, not a guess.
Could it remove a page with a faint signature?
Not on its own — light content measures low, which is exactly why nothing is removed until you confirm. Borderline pages are flagged but not pre-ticked, with the reason stated.
Does removal re-encode the survivors?
No — surviving pages are copied as they are.
