Compress PDF to 20KB

Opens set to 20KB — drop your PDF and it is brought under the limit.

To compress a PDF to 20KB, drop it into the tool above: it first re-compresses only the photos (text stays selectable), and only if that is not enough re-renders the pages step by step until the real file size is under 20KB. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How to compress a PDF to 20KB

  1. Drop your PDF into the box above or tap to choose it.
  2. The limit is already set to 20KB — change it if your portal says otherwise.
  3. Click Compress PDF.
  4. Check the preview, then download the 20KB file.

Where 20KB limits come from

Limits this small usually belong to a single item on an application form: a signature, a photo, or one ID page. Exam, job and scholarship portals often set a separate tiny cap for each of these.

What fits in 20KB

One page, ideally black-and-white. A full-colour scan of a page will not stay sharp at this size — at the smallest settings the text gets soft, so open the preview before you upload.

Our test scan (one A4 scanned page, 1.7 MB) came out at 161 KB under a 500 KB limit with text still selectable, at 97 KB under 100 KB, and at 16 KB under 20 KB (visibly softer). Your file is not our file — the result panel always shows the real number.

If your PDF won't go under 20KB

  • Crop to just the part you need (signature, photo) before compressing.
  • Scan in black-and-white or greyscale — colour costs the most bytes.
  • Send one page per file; split the PDF first if it has more.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no hourly cap.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser — there is no server that receives documents.

Can I compress to 20KB without losing quality?

Often, yes. The tool first re-compresses only the photos inside the PDF and leaves text and vectors untouched. Only if that cannot reach 20KB does it re-render pages as images, which makes the text unselectable. The result tells you which method was needed.

Does it work on iPhone, Android and Mac?

Yes — in any current browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge). No app to install.

What if my PDF won't go under 20KB?

You get the smallest version the tool could make, with its real size, and a note. Splitting the PDF or removing blank pages usually solves it.

How do I compress a PDF to 20KB for an online form?

Set the limit to the number the form states (it is 20KB here), compress, and upload the downloaded file. If the form asks for KB, 1 MB is 1024 KB.

How your files are handled

The work runs on your own device, inside the browser tab — so there is no server to send your document to.

  • Nothing is uploaded. We have no backend that receives or stores documents, so we cannot see your files during processing or after.
  • Your device does the work. Large documents are handled in stages, pages are rendered as you reach them, and each job is checked against your device before it starts — so a long run takes longer on a phone than on a laptop, nothing is queued behind other people's jobs, and you can stop a run at any point without touching your original file.
  • No account and no watermark. The output is a clean file you can use anywhere, with no sign-up and no hourly cap.
